Facts about Silencers:

They call them silencers but in fact they are a sound suppressor. They reduce the noise level (decibel) that the human ear hears, and even this varies from person to person.

There are two types of Gun Suppressors:
Wet and Dry.
A 'Wet' Suppressor uses either grease (a gel) or water to help reduce the sound, that's called muffling the sound.
A 'Dry' Suppressor, which is the more common used today. This simply screws onto a threaded barrel.

There are two 'Dry Suppressor' types:
Solid Core Piece - it essentially is like a barrel on a gun, you use the same cleaning tool as you do to clean the barrel of your handgun or rifle.
Parts Assembled - This type allows the user to take the suppressor apart to clean it thoroughly.

To reduce the sound a firearm makes, such as a 22 caliber or 9mm pistol should use sub sonic ammo (bullets) should be used.

A 'Silencer' does not have to be large as you see in the movies although they are readily used. The newer suppressors use titanium and the suppressor is smaller in length and diameter and not nearly as heavy.

To mount a suppressor on a semi auto handgun you must have 3 basic parts.
First – A threaded extended Barrel.
Second – An Adapter that screws onto the threaded barrel, then onto the suppressor.
Third – The Suppressor unit itself that either quick disconnects onto the threaded adapter or screws onto the adapter piece.

Often times the Suppressor is made specifically for a type of gun. For example one of the most common handguns in America is a Glock. To accommodate the Glock some people elect to have an elevated sight put onto the suppressor for better sight and aiming.

Glock at the moment does not make an extended barrel for most of it's handguns. So for a suppressor to fit a Glock you have to buy a third party gun barrel with a threaded piece for the suppressor to fit.
This is why many people who want to own a Suppressor legally in the USA end up buying an H&K (USP Tactical Series); Sig Sauer (such as the P220); or Beretta handgun (such as the 92 Series) with an extended barrel, then have the barrel threaded, if necessary, by the suppressor manufacturer or a third party that specializes in doing so.

OSS WWII T13 Beano Grenade

This was designed in the later years of the war by the O.S.S. (Office of Strategic Services) the forerunner to the CIA. The manufacturer was Eastman Kodak. The concept was to design a hand grenade shaped like a baseball because it made it easy for anyone to throw and get some distance. This grenade was designed to explode on impact. The weight was 9-ounces. Several people died or were injured during the testing of this product which according to records was planned for World War 2 but was never used.

Russian APS Underwater Assault Rifle

The APS (Avtomat Podvodnyj Spetsialnyj = Special Underwater Assault rifle) was developed during the early 1970s at TSNIITOCHMASH (Central Institute for Precision Machine building) by the team lead by V. Simonov. APS has been in active service with combat divers of the Soviet and Russian Navy since circa 1975.

4-Barrel Shotgun

This was emailed to me, I added one picture and some history.
There are several stories about this unusual shotgun.

First, the popular photo of such as weapon appears on the Internet, shown below. In fact this is a homemade version of such a unique weapon.

















Next I was only able to find one picture of the manufactured version, shown below. These were real, they were made by a company called FAMARS Rombo. The model was four-barreled break-action shotgun made at FAMARS factory in Italy.
The shotgun was produced in 28 gauge and .410 bore, and was primarily designed for small-game hunting. It is notable for having a complex action, which allows all four barrels to be fired consecutively and sequentially using just the one trigger.
FAMARS Rombo website does not have any pictures of this unique weapon and they have since stop manufacturing it. They are a custom maker of shotguns.
The last one of these 4-barreled shotguns sold at auction for an estimated $65,000 US Dollars.

Finally, the gun was used in a comic strip, a video game, and a movie. This led to the myth it was created by the entertainment industry. The fact is it was real, the publishers, video game makers, and movie makers used the concept.
